Facelift Surgery, also known as Rhytidectomy, involves the removing of excess tissue, tightening muscle on the face, neck and cheeks. As we age, certain parts of our face tend to droop, sag, and develop wrinkles. This is most pronounced in the neck and jowls. Facelift can address these signs of aging successfully.

Mr Ferrando’s less invasive Facelift technique involves only very small incisions behind the hairline through which the skin and muscle will be tightened on a deep tissue level. The recovery time will be shorter than with the old traditional facelift technique resulting in a rejuvenated, fresher look which will last longer.

It’s the muscle tightening technique which is the secret of a natural looking facelift which demands a extensive knowledge of the facial anatomy combined with a very detailed method.

The excact procedure is modified for each patient individually to provide the best results. It is often combined with other facial procedures, such as Browlift, Eyelid Correction, NeckLift, Liposuction, Fat Transfer or Nose Correction, depending on the needs of the patient.

Facelift Surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthetic, but it’s usually done under general anaesthetic. It takes 2-3 hours to complete depending on the exact procedure required.

Mr Ferrando will discuss all aspects of the Facelift procedure suitable to you at your consultations.

The Consultation

At the consultations, Mr Ferrando will take your medical history, thoroughly assess you, find out about your expectations of the surgery and will explain each stage of Facelift procedure to you. He will carefully discuss all options suitable to you and answer any questions you may have. The exact procedure depends on the facial anatomy of the patient. Clear communication about your aesthetic goals is vital at this stage.

Mr Ferrando will also explain the risks of smoking, the contraceptive pill and other medications to you, as they can interfere with the procedure as well as the healing process.

Mr Ferrando strongly believes that “good communication and feedback” between himself and his patients assures a maximum satisfactory outcome of Cosmetic Surgery.

The Procedure

Mr Ferrando’s Facelift procedure involves only four small incision behind your hairline, two on each side. His special technique leaves the hair roots undamaged so you don’t have to worry about any bald patches after surgery.

Sometimes a small incision may also be made under your chin or inside the mouth, if you would like to lift your jaw line.
The excess skin and fat will be removed or repositioned followed by tightening the muscles and surrounding tissues in your face.

Wounds will be carefully sutured to assure very little scaring. A special head bandage will be attached to your head and face, to help keeping bruising and swelling to a minimum.

After Surgery – Recovery

After the surgery, the bandage must be kept on for the first two days. Drainage tubes may be attached to your face but will be removed 1-2 days after surgery. There isn’t usually significant discomfort after surgery; Mr Ferrando will prescribe you pain relief medication to ease your discomfort, just in case you should experience any discomfort.

It is very important to keep your head in an elevated position as it will aid the recovery process and to keep your head bandage on for 5 days.

Some type of stitches are dissolvable and will disappear over time, whereas others will need to be removed 5 to 7 days after surgery. Metal clips will be removed two weeks after surgery. You can expect less swelling and bruising with Mr Ferrando’s less invasive Facelift method. Your facial movements might feel slightly stiff at first but this will disappear over time.

You should feel much better 2-3 days after surgery, but patients are recommended to have at least two weeks off work to allow their body to rest and recover comfortably at home. Any strenuous exercise or activities should be avoided for at least 6 weeks after surgery.

Follow up appointments will be made for you after surgery, but if you have any questions, or you should feel unsure about anything, please contact Mr Ferrando and he will gladly talk to you. The well being of his patients is of utmost importance to him.

Risks and Side Effects
All surgeries carry certain risks and even though they are rare you should be aware of them before making your decision. Mr Ferrando will talk you through any possible risks and side effects at his consultations as they will vary depending on the patient’s body shape, age, condition and lifestyle.
